The Rainbow Centre

We are delighted to announce that The Rainbow Centre has been selected as the main charity for which we will be raising money through personal sponsorship.

The Rainbow Centre are specialists in conductive education helping children with cerebral palsy throughout the South of England.  They are based at the Bradbury Building in Fareham where the Centre provides for young children, sometimes as young as six months, working comprehensively with them in small groups.  It also provides a Saturday Club for school-aged children as well as individually tailored sessions in some cases.  The Rainbow Centre is affiliated to SCOPE and is part of the School for Parents Network.

Over 50 years ago, the world famous Peto Institute in Hungary developed a system to help children with cerebral palsy learn to overcome the difficulties caused by their condition.

Conductive Education is a unique system that encourages emotional, social and cognitive development as well as the more obvious physical development.  Until the Rainbow Centre opened in 1990 this special way of learning was only available in Budapest and a very few other places around the world.  The Conductive Education system's professionals (Conductors) are specially trained in all the varying disciplines required, making them a new distinct 'brand' of professional whose training, experience and methods are unique.  Their techniques are now being successfully used to help children with other motor-related disabilities such as dyspraxia, spina bifida and development delays.  Adults who have suffered strokes, MS and Parkinson's disease can also be helped by Conductive Education.

You can donate to the Rainbow Centre by visiting my page at Just Giving.  Many thanks for all your good wishes and support.  Its really appreciated.  This donation page has been open for a year and we are about to pass the £3,000 mark with every penny going to the Rainbow Centre.  Thank you so much for your support.

Melon Orphanage

Although not a registered charity in the United Kingdom, many of you will be very familiar with the work that my God-daughter Clare, and Linz, undertook at the Melon Orphans and Destitute Mission in Nakuru, Kenya.  If you are not familiar with their work I would recommend you check out their blog which has some wonderful pictures and details of their time at the orphanage.

The orphanage caters for HIV/AIDS orphans and other vulnerable children based in the poorer areas of Nakuru. They have over a hundred orphans that they take care of on daily basis.  We regularly send small donations to help with school supplies and running expenses.  It is amazing how far a small donation will go at the orphanage.  If you would like to contribute, please speak to me direct.

2 July 2008:  Charity Golf Day and Dinner
