Andy Milner was born in Barrow in 1955 but grew up in Southampton attending Merry Oak and Itchen schools.  He joined Southampton City Council in 1973 and has completed 34 years in local government working for Winchester, London Borough of Harrow, Purbeck, Poole, South Somerset, North Kesteven (Lincolnshire) and Eastleigh - mainly in finance and information technology.   At Eastleigh, he is Area Co-ordinator for Chandler's Ford and Hiltingbury helping to determine local need and secure funding for capital projects.

" I attended a Grahame Robb training course late in 2006 and was inspired by Will Carnegie's tales of the (now defunct) BT Global Challenge.  I spent the lunch hour gaining more detail from Will and his fellow crew mate Babs Powell and knew that this was the challenge I had been seeking over the last few years."

" I have to admit that the original motivation was entirely selfish; to step out of my comfort zone and acquire new skills in an unfamiliar environment.  To me it is all about inspirational leadership."

"That original motivation has been boosted by the work I am undertaking with my partners.  The icing on the cake was meeting Helen and Julie at the Rainbow Centre for Conductive Education in Fareham.  Their commitment and enthusiasm has shown me that all this is pointless unless I can use the opportunty to raise funds for their charity.  "

Andy is taking a year off work to compete in the Round the World Race with 4 objectives:

Charitable.  To raise funds to support the running costs of the Rainbow Centre for Conductive Education in Fareham.

Regional.  To promote the economic opportunities in the South Hampshire area.

Educational.  To use ICT to develop a 21st century on line learning environment for the benefit of schools, colleges and businesses in the South Hampshire area.

Personal.  To develop team building and leadership skills whilst sailing home on the winning yacht.
